I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, and I am bursting with confidence. Today will be everything I’ve promised her…and more…

Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he's promised today will be the best day ever.

But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How much do they trust each other? And how perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion. In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.

Angie’s Thoughts

Best Day Ever takes place over a 24 hr period. We live in the mind of an egotistical man who thinks he’s the KING of his castle and what he says goes. His name is Paul. Paul Strom that is. He’s taking his wife to their lake cottage to have the BEST. DAY. EVER! Nothing and I mean NOTHING will ruin his plans to make everything perfect.

I love books like this. One minute Paul’s talking about this subject and then the next we’re thrown back into the past. Page by page dark secrets unfold before us. I couldn’t read fast enough. I needed to know what was going to happen next. It was like a train wreck and I couldn’t look away.

The plot, the characters, the mood that Kaira Touda writes and sets makes for the almost perfect dark, thrilling, suspense book that everyone is talking about. Her writing is flawless and she does a fantastic job at making you feel uneasy being in Paul’s mind throughout the whole book.

At times, well let’s be honest, the majority of the book I wanted to kill Paul. I wished we had a reprieve and seen the perspective from Mia. I don’t know how many times I would’ve killed to read her mind. I also think parts of the book were overly descriptive. Maybe there was a reason for this but it made it hard to get into the book and at times I found myself skipping parts. Other than that I loved it.

Best Day Ever is a dark, thrilling ride that leaves you guessing right up until the very last page. At times you’ll get chills running up your spine and memories of the past come back to haunt you.

The Verdict:
