One story. Two couples.
I proposed on our first date.
She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.
It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…
Until we got greedy and wanted a family. It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.
Finally, we were successful…
Until we were forced to bury our son.We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.
They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.
The retrieval of my wife and our family.
Micah’s Thoughts:
I am far behind the times with reading this book. However, with my hectic life right now and the buzz surrounding this book, I had to read it. Now, I am NOT a cliffhanger girl. I know some like a great cliffhanger and love to be just hanging there for weeks or even MONTHS. This….this is not me. I do not enjoy this. So I waited until the second book was near release to start. Wowza…this was an excellent idea! (FYI, the second book is out…don’t fret)
I am not going to talk about the plot much, other than what is in the blurb, because…well, this book is like one of those Russian nesting dolls. You start out expecting one great story and then…wow, another fold to the story unveils and it is entirely something else. And then…another doll pops out as another facet to the story and it just hits you in the face. Can Aly Martinez DO wrong? I’m not sure because I have loved everything I have read by her and this is no different.
There are 4 different characters in this book: Elisabeth, Roman, Luke and Clare. The initial story is fairly obvious. Roman and Elisabeth, after having some fertility issues, lost a child and their marriage fell apart. The story is Roman fighting for her back and Roman is…great. I just love him. Elisabeth is splintered, as any mother would be. Luke and Clare’s role is not exactly clear, but it becomes more transparent as the nesting dolls pop out.
I cannot wait to hop onto Transfer and get to the tiniest doll to see all of the intricacies of this story. I honestly love all 4 characters and their families (Hello! Kristen! Tessa!). I haven’t read a full 5 star read in a while and this is a pure white NOVA shining 5 star read for me. READ this book (and I assume the next. I am about 1/2 finished. It’s good).
So…like I just said…5 awesome Russian nesting throwing me down a rabbit hole of emotion doll supernova stars. Read it and thank me in the morning. Muah!
The Verdict:
