Q&A Book Review By Liezel & Angie
Why did you want to read this book?
Liezel: It was the synopsis that first caught my attention…
“I’m forty, flabby, and frustrated.”
Difficult to admit this – forty just so happens to be more of my age group and considering we rarely come across romances like this, I couldn’t resist.
Angie: When I read the blurb I knew this book was for me. It was intriguing. I don’t read many books about older couples but I’m so happy I did. Also, the cover sucked me in. I’m a cover whore and if it’s pretty then I’m done for.
What did you think about the characters? Were they relatable?
Liezel: Both Emme and Merik were amazing character and could definitely relate to both in the sense that the family especially the kids will always be my top priority. There were so many instances in each of their pasts where they could have given up but no matter what came their way the endured it even at the expense of their own happiness which I thought was admirable.
Angie: I loved Emme but I would be lying if I didn’t say she annoyed me at times. I found myself wanting to give her a good shaking and I sensed Gia wanted to do the same. I know her past made it difficult for her to trust but she just kept running and that got old really quick.
Merek was your typical player at first but I have seen so much more than what was on the outside. I had some things figured out and I admired him for that. I hated his omission of the truth. You can’t start a new relationship even if it’s friends with benefits with no honesty.
Emma and Derek together were great! I loved how they brought out the best in each other. Anyone with kids who are divorced, widowed or single will relate to this book. Heck even us stay at home moms who hubby’s work a lot.
What did you think of the pairing? Do you see their relationship lasting?
Liezel: In the beginning, I was doubtful about this couple. This was because their expectations were very different. They weren’t looking for the same thing in a relationship. Not only that but the amount of baggage they each had was another complication.
And while they started off as fuck buddies then moved on to being friends with benefits I was very satisfied how they eventually labelled the relationship. Their chemistry was always great. The passion was perfection. I couldn’t ask a better man for Emme and vice verse so I would say YES.
What was your favorite part of the book?
Liezel: There are so many! One was when they were able to open up and admit what they truly felt for each other but what was the icing on the cake was when the kids intervened.
I expected selfish, spoiled and bratty teenagers having issues with the parents moving on but in this story that wasn’t the case. It was the complete opposite. That just goes to show just how amazing the upbringing was by both sets of parents.
Angie: I agree with Liezel. Their kids knew they belonged together way before they did and even though there were bumps and turns along the way they got there.
Would you recommend this book?
Liezel: This is one of those books what I wouldn’t mind reading over and over again.
I appreciated that it was realistic especially considering their age group. I adored this couple as individuals and as a couple. I loved that the couple was always family oriented. I couldn’t get enough of them!
I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that enjoy a light and sweet true-to-life romance.
Angie: Yes I would recommend it! This is my first book by L.B. Dunbar and her writing is amazing. The depth of her characters are off the charts and so easy to get wrapped up in that time ceases to exist.
