The day my mother was killed, she told my father I wouldn’t speak again, and she told him if I died, he would die too. Then she predicted the king would trade his soul and lose his son to the sky.

Liezel’s Thoughts:
I have always been amazed by authors like Jennifer L. Armentrout, Debra Anastasia and K.A. Tucker who have the capacity of switching between sub-genres. And after reading “The Bird And The Sword”, I have another remarkable author to add to the list – Amy Harmon.
From the very beginning, I was captivated by the world that she created. Lark’s character was the first thing that drew me in. She was beyond intriguing. There were so many aspects of her life that I needed to discover – such as the extent of her power and how it would affect the world around her. Lark’s counterpart, King Taris was just equally impressionable. There were times that I was suspicious of his intentions but I was ecstatic that he proved me wrong.
“I have loved you every moment of every day, and I will love you until I cease to be. Bird, man, or king, I love you, and I will always love you.”
I thought that their pairing was spectacular. (Meshara definitely knew what she was doing when she cast that spell). I do have to admit that the romantic aspect of the story was a bit lacking for my taste. Despite this, it did not take away from how much I enjoyed the story.
Overall, I thought “The Bird And The Sword” was a fantastic introduction to this fantasy world. The characters, the world building, the plot line and the story flow was terrific. I couldn’t get enough! I felt that there was so much more story to tell. My only hope is that Amy Harmon decides to expand this into a series.

Amy Harmon knew at an early age that writing was something she wanted to do, and she divided her time between writing songs and stories as she grew. Having grown up in the middle of wheat fields without a television, with only her books and her siblings to entertain her, she developed a strong sense of what made a good story.
