Coralie

Twelve years ago, I ran to stay alive.

Port Royal, South Carolina, was my home. I was born there. I fell in love there. And I nearly died there. I never thought I’d go back. Now, after so many years, I have to return to bury the man who made my life a living hell. Some nights, I used to cry myself to sleep, praying my father would die. Other nights were different. Other nights, there was him.

Callan Cross.

My first confidante. My first kiss. My first love. My first everything: Callan was the glue that held me together when everything else was falling apart. He was my savior. He was there for me whenever I needed him…

Until he wasn’t.

Every night, I’ve seen the love of my life in my sleep.
I just never thought I’d have to face him again.

Callan

Twelve years ago, I f*#@ed up big time.

Living life through a camera lens is sometimes easier than dealing with it head on. Scratch that. It’s always easier. For over a decade, I’ve been a master of my art, taking photographs all over the world. Yet despite all of the countries I’ve visited, the amazing things I’ve seen, the beautiful women I’ve screwed, my heart has remained in pieces.

Coralie’s the only woman I’ve ever loved, will ever love. And I’m determined to show her that we’re meant to be together. Even if it means unearthing the bones of the past in the process.

A lifetime and a thousand miles have stood between us.
Now, there’s no length of time I won’t wait, no distance I won’t travel, in order to make her mine.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

“Calico” is about a woman named Coralie who is called  back home to bury her father. While arranging a funeral for her last living relative should be the reason of her pain and sorrow this isn’t the case. It is returning to her past that is causing her distress.

To say that her upbringing was traumatic is an understatement. She suffered so much at the hands of the very person who was supposed to protect her. The one person that was able to make her life bearable than was her first everything, Callan. Even in their teens you could tell that they were fated to be together but perhaps it just wasn’t their time.

When they see each other again, however, is a different story. It was not an easy road for them, not even close. Whatever they go through alone and together is beyond dark and heartbreaking but it was necessary for them to move on.

“You were my first, and I was yours. But we’re adults now, Coralie. Back then I loved you like a kid. Now I plan on loving you like a man. Do you know what that means? Do you think you can handle that….”

There were multiple things that I loved about this book. First, it was the couple. From the very beginning, you knew that they were meant for each other, that their relationship wasn’t based on the physical  but the psychological and emotional aspects. The author proved to us repeatedly that they were unquestionably  soul mates.

I loved how descriptive the author was with her words. Not only did I feel like I was experiencing the South firsthand but I felt like I was in Coralie’s shoes feeling her distress, her remorse, and regret. That being said, there were multiple occurrences that my emotions got away with me. The tears that I shed, however, were well worth it because whatever happens after had me feeling the complete opposite.

I would have to say what made this book unique was how their professions played a vital role in their story. Their art, more so on Callan’s part gave the story much more depth and pulled the story together perfectly.

This is the first book that I have read from Callie Hart but it sure will not be my last. She definitely garnered another fan with this epic second chance romance.

About Callie Hart

Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and moulding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.

Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairytale to her work.

Callie Hart is the author of the Blood & Roses Series. Zeth & Sloane’s story is now complete, but there are a number of stories still to be released under the Blood & Roses banner. 2015 will see Cade, Michael and Rebel’s stories being released, as well as a number of brand new stories, all of which will be Dark Romance novels.
