Kat's a take no sh*t kind of girl, but when her mother forces her to start online dating with her, she's taken off guard. The tables turn and now Kat has the opportunity to dish out unsolicited advice of her own. The ever-unsociable Kat, puts herself out there knowing no man in their right mind will ask her out.
Little does she know the world has changed. The constant connection has caused a disconnect, and while hiding behind a screen most men hold nothing back.
Will Kat be able to get her mother to stop being a behind the scenes text whore, or will she get dragged into the craze that is sweeping the nation?
Micah’s Thoughts:
I requested this book because it stated that it was a lighthearted romantic comedy and I freaking LOVE those. I could read those every day of the week and never get enough.
We have Kat (Katherine) as the main heroine of the novel. Although, I don’t know if she would even like that title. We meet her in college as she falls for a guy who ends up being her college professor. Who then ends up cheating on her. Or maybe not. I feel like we never fully got the whole story because she never actually spoke to him. However, that is certainly the impression she got from him. But because he cheated on her, she dropped out of Harvard and moved home. (Great lesson for all the ladies)
We fast forward a bit in her life and she is settled as a tattoo artist and happy. She isn’t “dating” in the traditional sense, but she is loving her life. She has a strained relationship with her family and THEN her mother comes to stay with her. To say that her mother disapproves of her life is an understatement. When Kat sees that her mother has signed up for a dating site, Match, she decides to do so as well, with a dating profile FULL of snark. She meets loser after loser and that is the premise of the novel.
I wouldn’t call this a romantic comedy, less book 2 is full of romance. This doesn’t have romance in it. This is a comedy and has plenty of funny elements. However, romance or love isn’t one of them. I love Kat and her personality and if I were single today, I would most likely be taking her approach to dating. I hope the professor from the beginning makes a cameo or comes back for book 2. I thought he would end up being one of her dates in this book. I still hope that happens so Kat can rip into him.
Overall, I would rate this book a 3.5-4 stars, rounding up hoping book 2 will have more romance than comedy in it. Or SOME romance! 🙂
