This story is the follow-up novel to Forgetting August, the first in the Lost and Found series. We follow the characters August, Everly, and Ryan to the conclusion of their story line. You need to have read the first book to read this one and understand it.
At the end of the first one, we have learned that August has regained his memories, particularly of the event that put him into a coma. He has chosen money and Trent over Everly. Everly is back with Ryan, her fiancé, because of his decision.
I was so taken with the story in the first book, I was very excited to read this book. However, I felt the story fell short for the first 1/2 of this book. Everly lost herself and was so much less of what her character was in the first book. I realize that she was adrift in the sea of wedding planning that her heart wasn’t in, but I couldn’t connect to her like I could in the first book, even when she was with Ryan. And the eventual dissolution of their relationship felt so mutual, it was near unbelievable. August, on the other hand, was so drunk that he couldn’t function and shut everyone out. This was all very early on in the book.
The first part of the book was weak, in my opinion. I felt a strong loss of connection to the characters and the story. However, the second half was much better. The story picked up, the plot thickened, there were twists and turns. The resolution was so sweet, so beautiful, so complete.
I recommend this series and if you feel a lull in the book, push through it. It does get better! Although I found I was disconnecting to the characters, they were actually character building moments, when I reflected on them.
