Q & A Review by Liezel, Micah and Angie
What do you enjoy most about Alessandra Torre’s Books?
Liezel: I’m in the same boat as Micah… I haven’t read all of Alessandra’s books but the one’s that I have read so far – I did enjoy. What I love most about her stories is how easy it is to connect with the main characters. It doesn’t matter what setting they are in, I tend to fall so deep into their world it’s as if I become a friend.
Micah: I haven’t read all of her books. I know that Angie is a HUGE fan of hers. But of the ones I have read previously, I love her world shaping, her character development. Those are some of her strong points. And for me, those are really important. I know, I know…I’m always going on about characters. But isn’t that what makes a story rich? The characters? How do you connect to a story the most if not through the characters? If you don’t care about them, why do you care about what happens TO them.
Most recently Hollywood Dirt is an excellent example of this. Really rich characters, excellent world building, strong back stories.
Angie: What do I not enjoy about Alessandra’s books would be an easier question. She has a way to make you feel like you are a part of each character’s life that you read. Regardless if you’re reading her dark romance, contemporary romance or erotic books, she just has a way with words that you feel connected too. I’m not rich by any means but Alessandra did such a great job writing Chloe’s story that I felt like for just a moment I was. Her writing is exceptional and with each book it keeps getting better and better!
What did you think of the character development in Love, Chloe? Were the characters easy to relate to?
Liezel: At first, it was difficult to relate to Chloe. I thought her attitude needed a serious adjustment and man did she get one in this story. In fact, this is what it was about. As we witness her changing throughout the book she completely became relatable. What I loved most about her was that after all that happened she was able to bounce back without much assistance from her loyal friends. I thought she handled all the changes the best she could, considering.
Micah: In “Love, Chloe”, I felt like Chloe was relatable, but on incline as the story went on. At the beginning, I felt she was whiny and I flat-out just didn’t care for her. The other characters? This is a difficult answers. There was just so many. This is where you can tell is was previously a serial. At 50% into the book, I had no clue who the main love interest for Chloe was going to be. She was “with” two people, but it could also have been someone else. So, too many moving pieces and I couldn’t connect to many male characters to get emotionally involved with any of them. Now, once I hit 75%, I DID connect to the male romantic lead and that is when the book got better for me. Before, I felt like the story was kind of un-directed mess. At the end, I liked them both.
Angie: I loved the character development! Like I said above, Chloe was so easy to relate too. I just loved her character. We watched her go from a spoiled, entitled rich girl to someone who I wanted to be best friends with! I have to respectfully disagree with Micah, I loved not knowing who Chloe was going to essentially end up with. She’s a typical 20 something single woman living in NY trying to make it on her own. My favorite quote by Chloe is this “That’s right, bitches. I couldn’t balance my checkbook and didn’t know the capital of Iowa but I apparently gave amazing head. I could die a happy sexpot.” I hated Vic for obvious reasons and rooted for Carter! In the end it all worked out like it was supposed to.
How did the story flow?
Liezel: This is the part that got me….”Love, Chloe” started really strong, fell flat in the middle then picked up beautifully towards the end. I think this was because of the Nicole/Clarke back story. Sure they were an interesting twist but for some reason I felt like their part was too lengthy. I wished that there was more time spent on the main couple if anything. I too was a bit confused with all the additional men brought into the story. In a way, the element of surprise was good but with so many male characters I couldn’t form an attachment to any of them until I got to the very end.
Micah: Ok. Blunt honesty. I felt like she could have removed probably 20% of the book…maybe even 30% of the book and it would be the exact same story. It felt drawn out for story’s sake. Or for drama sake? I’m not sure. I mean it flowed as it moved in a linear line. However, I was often questioning why this certain part was in even in the story? This is why I could identify that it was a serial story instead of a normal novel.
Angie: I have to disagree again! Maybe because I’m like a huge fan of Alessandra but I absolutely loved “Love, Chloe”! I couldn’t read it fast enough. I thought it flowed great! The writing is superb. The characters are strong and I loved every single word of it except for Nicole and Vic. I hated them. Lol.
Did the book end as you expected?
Liezel: The ending was perfection! Since the book was written in Chloe’s POV reading that Epilogue was a breathe of fresh air. I kept swiping my Kindle app hoping for more and when I got to the very end I couldn’t resist immediately going back to reread the last two chapters all over again.
Micah: Yes. More or less. It had a nice ending and I liked it. It vastly improved the book for me.
Angie: Yes! It was absolutely perfect! I need more of Chloe in my life and I wish that it didn’t end!
Would you recommend this book?
Liezel: Despite the issues I mentioned above, I still enjoyed “Love, Chloe”. I definitely would recommend this book to Alessandra fans or anyone who is looking for a quick, light and easy read.
Micah: It was fun and flirty. Nothing deep. Nothing dark. if you’ve read the serial in Cosmo, you’ll love it. I personally didn’t really care for it, but because it took so long to get to the meat of the romance. I would have cared for more of that.
Angie: Yes! I will recommend this to everyone! This is one of my favorite books by Alessandra!
