From the New York Times bestselling author of Sweet Ache comes a blistering new novel filled with danger, secrecy, and a desire that can’t be sated…

Foreign war correspondent Tanner Thomas is addicted to living on the edge. Needing the adrenaline rush of his job to help him cope with a personal loss, he throws himself back into the game, concentrating all his energy on getting the next big story.

But when he meets his new photojournalist, Beaux Croslyn, he can’t help but feel like he’s losing his focus—and maybe risking more…

With secrets she won’t address, Beaux is far from your ordinary woman. Determined to keep her distance, she’s willing to pull Tanner in closer and hide behind the sparks flying between them. But as Beaux’s past begins to put their relationship—and their lives—at risk, Tanner’s determination to find the truth puts them both in jeopardy.

He's ready to chase her to the ends of the earth to find out if what they had was real, or if the danger surrounding them was just an exquisite heat fated to burn out…

Liezel’s Thoughts:

One of the many questions that was asked during last week’s launch party was “How would you describe K. Bromberg’s stories in one word?” I hadn’t even read the book yet, but the one word that immediately came to my mind was “Hot”.  I predicted that “Hard Beat” would follow in the first six books’ footsteps. The question is, did it live up to my expectations? It sure did.

“Hard Beat” is about a foreign war correspondent named Tanner who is trying to make a sense in the world right after he loses his partner and best friend – Stella. He is left guilty and distraught yet instead of taking that much-needed break  to grieve he decides to go straight back into the danger zone. He was looking for a way to get away from it all and rather than his job providing  that for him as expected he gets distraction  by his new partner BJ instead.

Within just a few interactions, she manages to push his buttons in  good ways and in  bad ways. What was great about the situation was that one minute they were trying not to kill each other than the next they were fighting the urge not to rip each others clothes off. The angst between the two was beyond superb.  BJ definitely provided the perfect distraction that he needed. She came into Tanner’s life at exactly the right time and place… but her reasoning? THAT was something altogether questionable.

This is another reason why this story kept me captivated… the secrets and the mystery. I will however be honest and say that there was a moment (half-past the middle) where I thought the author had lost me – to the point where I began to question her logic as to why she would depict BJ character  in a certain manner but then  I came to realize she knew exactly what she was doing. As more details began to unravel I began to appreciate the author’s creativity and the way that she was able to pull me back in.

Needless to say, the twists and turns were unexpected. Besides the romance, the intrigue and the fantastic way that K. Bromberg integrated the original characters  into the story – it was the uniqueness and the unpredictability that made me love this book.

About K. Bromberg

K. Bromberg is that reserved woman sitting in the corner that has you all fooled about the wild child inside of her–the one she lets out every time her fingertips touch the computer keyboard. She’s a wife, mom, child rustler, toy pick-er-upper, chauffer, resident web-slinger, LaLaloopsy watching, American Girl doll dressing multi-tasker of all things domestic and otherwise. She likes her diet cokes with rum, her music loud, and her pantry stocked with a cache of chocolate.

K. lives in Southern California with her husband and three children. When she needs a break from the daily chaos of her life, you can most likely find her on the treadmill or with Kindle in hand, devouring the pages of a good, saucy book.

Fueled is K. Bromberg’s second published novel and is the highly anticipated second book of “The Driven Trilogy.” Driven was her well-received debut novel and Book #1 of the series.
