Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness…until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.

Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he’d rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It’s his saving grace, but it doesn’t silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours’ sleep and his bad boy reputation.

When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new “it” couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting—needing—to give Kit this, even if he can’t give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful…and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

I have always been a huge fan of Nalini Singh’s paranormal romance series  and so far I have been impressed with her approach into the contemporary romance genre as well. I thought the first two books in the Rock Kiss were terrific, but I am having conflicting thoughts about “Rock Redemption”.

The story involves Actress Kit Devigny and guitarist have known each other for years. They were close friends way before they were made famous in their respective careers. While Kit was always in contact with all the members of the band it was Noah who she was closest to. Their friendship became so intense that everyone (including themselves)  expected that they would take the  relationship to the next level but before anything could even happen Noah intentionally sabotages their chance.

To me, what Noah did  was utterly unforgivable. From then on  I couldn’t help but feel  frustrated with him. I continuously  questioned his reasoning, why would he willingly give up something that meaningful and do so callously? What makes it even worse is that Kit was amazing. She was one of those women who possessed beauty  inside and out.

I  had my doubts whether  the author would be able to redeem him (and  thankfully she does) but the issue I had been that the entire book seemed to be focused on  just that. The title of the book was certainly fitting, but I felt that Noah’s “redemption”  was too long and drawn out. Hence, my rating of 3/5.

I honestly would have enjoyed “Rock Redemption” if it revealed more of their relationship after they finally made that commitment. That being said, I am hoping that one day  Nalini Singh would eventually expand their love story because this remarkable couple have so much more potential to become truly exceptional.

The Verdict:

rating-3

About Nalini Singh

I’ve been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There’s no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated every month).

So far, I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

I loved the first two in this series, but choose to skip this one because there was nothing redeeming about Noah at all!
