I have one rule: Don’t shit where you eat.
Several of the women in the condo complex I own would love some one-on-one playtime, and why wouldn’t they? I’m young, fit, attractive, and loaded. Not to mention I’m packing a sizable bulge below the belt. It’s a combination that drops panties on a regular basis.
Yay, me, right?
But my cock, troublemaker that he is, has been confined to my trousers by my business partner. A concession I agreed to, and one that’s never been hard to enforce until Emery moves in across the hall. She’s smart, young, determined, and sexy as hell. I want a taste. I won’t stop until I’m buried deep inside the succulent new-in-town brunette.
After being warned about my past, she does her best to steer clear, but I’m about to show her that underneath it all, I’m a guy with a heart of gold and a cock of steel.
My name is Hayden Oliver, and this is my story.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
I’ve always had this crazy obsession with stories that involve an attractive, egotistical, manwhore who finally finds the one and “Screwed” belongs in such category. There is just something about a strong man being brought down to his knees that I find entertaining and “Screwed” did just that.
Hayden Oliver is the co-owner /landlord of the condo where newly transferred Emery moves into. As soon as he sees her he knows that he wants her underneath him in a very bad way. Emery is just as attracted to Hayden but refuses to give in like any other woman would do. Hayden finds this intriguing and decides that if he can’t have her in his bed that it’s best to befriend her instead. As they spend more and more time together not only does their friendship deepen but their feelings for each other do too.
What I thought was great about this book was the pursuit. I liked how Hayden was challenged by Emery. I admired that he was willing to put in the effort in getting to know her even if there was the likelihood that he wasn’t getting what he really wanted in return. I loved how their relationship developed from a friendship into something more. It was a slow build-up, but I thought it was well worth the wait.
What I thought was difficult about the story, however, was the main character himself. I honestly had a difficult time accepting Hayden. Right from the beginning I found him sketchy. What kind of landlord sleeps with his own tenants? That’s just…ugh. The very first convo he had with Emery made this guy even more irredeemable. My idea of him slightly changes when we finally discover what happened in his past but for me it was not enough to change my overall opinion. His reasoning was acceptable, but it led me to have even more questions that were left unanswered.
I did however appreciate Emery’s character. I loved that even if she was captivated by Hayden she didn’t immediately give in. She certainly put him through his paces. I admired that she always had her priorities straight. In general, I thought the two were “okay” together. They did build a relationship based on friendship, the sex was adequate but for me they lacked that deeper connection that I always look for in couples.
Despite my issues above, I still found “Screwed” quite entertaining. I would certainly recommend this story for those looking for a romance involving a slow build-up, a bit of humor and a great chase.
