The only sure way to destroy a man is to take what he cannot live without.
Three years ago, I had everything.
A beautiful wife.
A son.
A reason for living.Until a ruthless task force, assembled under Mayor Michael Culling, with a brutal strategy to make the streets of Detroit ‘safe’, ripped away everything I loved in a deadly hunt called The Culling.
They tried to kill me, too. I wish they had. Now I'm cursed by the memories of that night, and the words I whispered to my dying wife.
A promise—to avenge the wrong and set it right.
I’m no longer Nick Ryder. I’m a masked vigilante. Faceless. Loveless. Fearless. A man with nothing left to lose—one who's seen the dark and violent truth behind the city’s flawless veneer.
Michael Culling doesn’t know who I am. Or what I want. All he knows is that I’ve kidnapped his beautiful wife.
An eye for an eye—isn’t that how the saying goes? And Aubree Culling is the perfect pawn to destroy him.
If she doesn’t destroy me first.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
“Ricochet” isn’t a book that I would recommend for the faint-hearted. This is because it is extremely violent. There were multiple scenes that were difficult to stomach. It was almost to the point that I thought that I wouldn’t be able to continue on but just as I was about to give up it transformed unexpectedly into something quite extraordinary.
The story revolves around this cold-hearted killer – Nick Ryder. He wasn’t always a hardened man. He once lived a perfect life alongside a loving wife and son. Yet when they were viciously ripped away from him, he strikes out and is now seeking vengeance. His main target is the mayor himself. He begins stalking Mayor Michael Culling and when he finally came to realize that his primary weakness was his precious wife Aubree – she becomes the target.
What Nick didn’t know however was that Aubree has been living in her own personal hell the entire time that she has been married. At first, I couldn’t process why Aubree continued to stay with such a psychopath for those five long years and I honestly had my doubts as to how the author would be able to pull that off but I needed not to worry because she pulls it off magnificently. As a matter of fact, as the story moved along I continued to become even more impressed with how every major point of the story comes full circle.
“I saw darkness in her beauty, and she saw beauty in my darkness. Win and yang. Black and white. Beauty and scars; fury and forgiveness. She should’ve been my nemesis, but in her, I found something I didn’t know I was looking for.”
One of the best things I loved about the book was the unlikely pairing of our H/h. Nick had so much anger and hatred in his heart and it seemed that he would never be able to get past it but as soon as Aubree began confiding in him we witness his darkness slowly fading away. The author described it perfectly when she stated that Aubree was Nick’s redemption. This definitely added onto this deep connection and passion that they already had.
Another thing that was terrific about “Ricochet” was its unpredictability. Up until the very end, it kept me captivated. I was hoping and begging for that much-deserved HEA. Did it deliver? Let’s just say that the ending was pretty damn EPIC.
If you are into books that are dark and gritty and contain one memorable couple look no further because “Ricochet” is undoubtedly the perfect choice for you.
