She was forbidden.
I didn’t care.
As my best friend’s little sister, Macey Hale was off-limits, but the girl was tempting as sin and forbidden as fuck. I wish I could say that stopped me. I wish I could tell you I behaved like a gentleman.
I didn’t.
When she waltzes back into my life with that same spark I fell for, looking every bit the beautiful woman I knew she’d grow into, I have to force myself to remember I’m different from the man she once knew. I’m colder. Harder. And for good reason.
With my heart on lockdown and my hands aching to touch her, I set out to prove that I can keep myself in check this time.No strings. No attachments.
And definitely no falling for her again.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
I mentioned in my last review that I enjoyed “The Gentlemen Mentor” but oh my I sure did love the second installment of this series even more! I have to be honest I have this predilection for brother’s best friend romances especially when done right and I assure you “Sinfully Mine” certainly was.
So more about the story…we were first introduced to Reese Jackson in the first book as the owner of the club that his best friend Cameron Hale frequents. When I say “best friend” don’t take it lightly because Reese takes this role to a whole ‘nother level. Years ago, Reese falls hard for Hale’s sister Macey. Not wanting to risk their friendship however he does the unthinkable and decides to let her go. Even with how he deep he felt he encouraged her to move on without him.
Six years later, Macey literally comes knocking on his club’s door asking for him to provide a “distraction” from her failed career and relationship. As expected Reese can’t turn her away. He becomes as torn as ever. Even after all that time without her he still wanted Macey desperately but remains just as hesitant because he knew just how badly Hale would react. This time around though he knows better than to keep things a secret and decides to be honest with Hale.
I would have to say that this is what I found most remarkable about this book… Reese’s character. Everything about him screams “WONDERFUL”. I admired how much he cherished his friendship. At that age who would even consider such a selfless act? Rather than wallowing after letting Macey go he pursues his ambition and becomes a made man. What kept me so enthralled was how seeing how Reese was going to break the news to Hale. This was definitely a delicate situation but you know what? Reese handled it beautifully.
The chemistry and passion between the two was beyond magnificent. I appreciated the fact that the BDSM was on the lighter side to the point where it didn’t overshadow the love story. I do have to admit that I did have doubts about the relationship since Reese treated Macey so poorly after each of the “scenes” but then I came to realize that how he treated her was out of self-preservation. Once I got over that I believed wholeheartedly that these two belonged together.
I also enjoyed seeing more of Hale and Brie in this book. Seeing how protective Hale was of his sister was so endearing. Witnessing the friendship grow between was Brie and Macey was fantastic as well. Even if this book wasn’t about them I thought it great that we see both evolve individually and as a couple.
Although the book is listed as a standalone I would recommend reading both since they are complimentary of each other and because they are just that good! So far, I am enjoying the series and I am looking forward to seeing what Kendall Ryan has in store for us next.
