Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?
As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
Kacey’s younger sister, Livie whom we have first meet in the first book of the series is off to college at Princeton. If you’ve read the first book, you know that Livie isn’t anything like her sister. As much as Kacey is extroverted, Livie is the total opposite. Kacey is outgoing while just the mere thought of Livie meeting a guy would most likely give her a panic attack. Knowing this Kacey makes it her goal in life to change this and she recruits her psychiatrist to help in this endeavor.
Under the tutelage of her sister, they go out partying together for the very first time. Trusting her sister to take care of her she lets loose and gets hammered up to the point that she barely remembers what happened the day after. Some of the memories comeback however when she wakes up to find a very tattooed and a very naked Ashton in her dorm room.
Ashton isn’t like anybody that she’s met before. He’s intense and mysterious but oh boy…very much attractive…and of course very well much taken. She knows its best to stop thinking about Ashton but that becomes much too difficult since the guy that she is officially seeing lives in the same house that Ashton does.
Ashton and Livie try their best to avoid each other since they are in other relationships but it’s as if there were outside forces pushing them together. Little by little they open up to each other and deeper emotions start to develop. At this point in the story I became very frustrated with Ashton. I couldn’t understand why he was in a relationship that he obviously could care less about but as his secrets slowly unfold further down in the story I understood why he acted so. His issues didn’t make up for what occurs however.
What I did dislike about the story was how Livie kept her boyfriend Connor stringing along. She new from the very beginning that he wasn’t the right guy for her and she should have been honest with him from the very start. The truth does finally come out but for me it was way too late in the story. I just felt horrible for the guy!
Friendships were destroyed and feeling were hurt and even if those were mended in the end it just left a bad taste in my mouth. To get over my disappointment I wished that after that was said and done that Connor would have an epic story written following this one but sadly that didn’t happen either.
Overall, I thought the rest of the story was terrific. There were multiple parts of the story that I found very interesting. First of which was Livie’s selfless act of volunteering. Second was witnessing just how much love Ashton had for his mother. He literally would have done everything for her. Third reason is…since I didn’t experience the full effects of college life I found those parts intriguing. Of course I won’t neglect to mention how much I adored this “guardian angel” role that Dr. Stayner played. His ways were so unorthodox yet in every sense his manner was exceptional! I’m honestly hoping that we see more of him in the future.
“One Tiny Lie” definitely had its up and downs. The question is would I recommend this book? I certainly would just as long as you are willing to look past the issues of dishonestly and digest the story as a whole. I guarantee that when you do this then you would really enjoy this book.
