He was just a boy.
And I was just a girl.
But if that’s all there was to the story it wouldn’t be very interesting, would it?Up and coming band Willow Creek is back in their hometown for the summer. For the drummer, Maddox Wade, this summer was meant for writing music and playing gigs.
Falling in love was not part of the plan.
One look at Emma Burke and those plans cease to matter.
Emma is quiet and guarded. She’s still hurt from her father walking out two years ago. She doesn’t want to trust Maddox, but with his dark hair, smoldering good looks, and infectious smile he’s impossible to resist.
Together Maddox and Emma embark on an unforgettable summer of adventures and first love.
Everything is perfect…or so Emma thinks. There are things she doesn’t know, and when she finds out the truth it might shatter everything she’s built with Maddox.
No one said love was easy, and for Maddox and Emma it just might be impossible.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
So, I’m just going to put this out there…. It has been ages since I’ve read anything YA. I couldn’t even remember what was the last one! (Thank goodness for Goodreads). After finishing “Last To Know” however I strongly need to consider adding the genre back into my rotation because this book was seriously a breath of fresh air.
Young and innocent Emma Burke was never meant to met a guy like Maddox Wade. It was by pure chance that they came across each other at the county fair. Within just a few minutes in her presence Maddox knew that she was different. He knew that she was worth all the effort.
Emma wasn’t like any other typical teenager. Because of abandonment issues Emma’s self-confidence was at an all time low therefore she always kept to herself. She was sheltered , quiet and preferred being alone. Honestly, she was boring. For her summer break she planned on spending it in her room catching up on reading but all her plans changed when she met Maddox.
“I’m not too good for you. I’m average, Maddox. I’m just a girl and you’re just a boy. But together, we’re more. Maybe not perfect, but we’re something pretty extraordinary.”
Knowing just how monotonous Emma’s life has been, Maddox decides to give her a summer she would never forget. This is where we become part of one of the most sweet and enjoyable courtship’s. Maddox sure was inventive. As each date went by I was wanting and waiting to see what fun event he could come up next. Let’s just say that Maddox was all kinds of wonderful! The young girl within me sure was charmed by his efforts.
What I loved about this book was witnessing a slow but beautiful relationship unfold right before our very own eyes. It sure did bring back a lot of memories … experiencing that giddy feeling of falling in love for the very first time.
Given that this is a YA romance I need you to be aware that the story is clean and wholesome yet even without those torrid and passionate scenes that we’re used to in romances of today that it didn’t take away from this breath taking love story.
The Verdict:
