Fisher,
I guess this is it, huh? After fourteen years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments and countless letters I’ve written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I’ve always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you’d changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you’d been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.

Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’m sorry it wasn’t me.
Lucy

To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they’ll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

I was in search of a story that was set in the state that I currently lived in as part of a blogger challenge when I came across “Fisher’s Light”. At first, I didn’t realize that it was set in my home state of South Carolina and thought “what a crazy coincidence!” It was as if I was meant to read this particular book at this particular time. Kismet.

…which is the perfect word to describe  Lucy and Fisher. These two were inseparable from the day that they first met in high school.  Yup, they were high school sweethearts. They were so much in-love back then that they didn’t hesitate to get married early on. For them, their age didn’t matter because they knew that no matter what – nothing could come between them…or so they thought.

You would expect that the long distance relationship would be their issue since Fisher was in the military but that isn’t the case. The issue was Fisher coming home from the war distraught. With the first few tours, he was able to snap out of it immediately as long as he had Lucy by his side. The torment he experiences, however, worsens with each and every mission up to the point were they find themselves drifting further and further apart.

Lucy knows that their relationship is strong enough to handle it and is more than willing to fight for what they have but Fisher has other thoughts.  Because of this immense love that he has for Lucy, he refuses to pull her into his darkness. To protect her he does the unthinkable -he drives her away. Even if it hurts down deep in his soul to let her go he makes this selfless decision to protect her.

“You are always the light in my darkness. You’re the reason I’m alive, you’re the reason I’m here and you’re the reason I breathe, every day.”

Now I don’t know about you guys but for me to witness such an altruistic act such as this one was HUGE! It proves that our hero has enough integrity to do what is right all for the sake of his love. This alone was a game changer for me. While he does sound like he’s too perfect I assure you that he isn’t. He has his flaws too but in a  sense it made him feel more real. Needless to say, the character building was magnificent not only on Fisher’s part but on Lucy and the supporting characters as well.

I thought the story flow was fantastic. I am normally not a fan of story lines going back and forth between the timelines but the way that the author did it was done effortlessly. Seeing just how true Lucy and Fisher’s love, passion and emotions were across their long history was terrific to witness. The romance ( meaning = sex scenes) was a little on the lighter side but I didn’t mind one bit. If anything it had the positive effect where emotional aspects of the relationship were highlighted more than the physical aspects.

Just like any other book I’ve read by Tara Sivec…  I was left very much impressed. For me, her stories just seem to evolve and get better and better. I loved this story and I will definitely be marking  “Fisher’s Light” as one of my favorite standalone, second chance stories romance reads to date.
