In Thoughtless, Kiera told her story. Now it's time to hear from the sexy rock star who captivated us all . . .
THOUGHTFUL
The only place Kellan Kyle has ever felt at home is onstage. Gripping his guitar in a darkened bar, he can forget his painful past. These days his life revolves around three things: music, his bandmates, and hot hookups. Until one woman changes everything . . .
Kiera is the kind of girl Kellan has no business wanting-smart, sweet, and dating his best friend. Certain he could never be worthy of her love, he hides his growing attraction . . . until Kiera's own tormented heart hints that his feelings might not be one-sided. Now, no matter the consequences, Kellan is sure of one thing-he won't let Kiera go without a fight.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
As the synopsis mentioned Thoughtful is basically Thoughtless rewritten in Kellan Kyle’s point of view. Knowing this, there was always the potential that it could be another POV disappointment and I assure you this one isn’t. It’s Kellan for goodness’ sake! And while we do lose the element of surprise (since we know how it all ends) there was so much more that we discover about Kellan.
For one we become a witness to his painful childhood. You would never expect his very own flesh and blood to be so cruel. The rejection he experienced especially from his mother was dreadful. Things did change when Denny came to live with them. Although it was temporary, he finally had someone in his life that encouraged and appreciated him. This is when I came to understand how deep their friendship really went.
But of course that was short-lived. It wasn’t long after that when Kellan hit the road and found his band. From then on he lived up to the rocker lifestyle – a life that included repetitive nights of debauchery. It didn’t matter how many women he slept with because as soon as he tumbled out of bed his feeling of emptiness remained. Every single one of these woman just wanted him because he was Kellan Kyle. Not a single one had the interest in getting to know the man behind the name. That was up until he met Kiera.
At first you could tell that he first fell in love with the idea of the relationship Denny and Kiera had but as the friendship grew he felt so much more. This is where we get to experience the full effect of his emotions. The ache he feels from the loneliness , the guilt he endures due to the developing feelings for his friends’ girl and the eventual betrayal, the pain and jealousy seeing the only woman he ever loved with another is just heart wrenching.
This is what made this book standout for me. The passion. The way S.C. Stephens was able to transcribe these profound emotions onto paper was truly exceptional. “Thoughful” to me wasn’t just another typical retell of an already fantastic story but it really was a book that had its very own voice.
When I wrote my review for this story almost two years ago I mentioned that this was one series that I wouldn’t mind reading over and over again. I thought back then that it was overall PERFECT. I never realized that it could get any better but that changed after I read “Thoughtful”.
