Every passion has its price . . .
Journalist Sophie Ryder has been following Emery Lockwood’s story since she was a little girl. There has always been something in his haunted eyes that she couldn’t resist and now, when she’s certain he holds the key to solving a string of kidnappings, she’ll do anything to speak to him. Even if it means venturing deep into the seductive world of the Gilded Cuff, a luxurious BDSM club on Long Island’s Gold Coast and Emery’s personal playground.
From the moment Sophie enters his shadowy, sensual domain, Emery Lockwood knows this tantalizing new little sub was meant to belong to him. However, Sophie wants more from Emery than just pleasure . . . she wants his past. And that is something he isn’t willing to give—no matter who is asking. But every moment he spends with Sophie, Emery feels his control slipping and he knows it’s only a matter of time before he surrenders to her heart, body, and soul.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
What a riveting story! From the very first moment investigative reporter Sophie Ryder stepped into Emery Lockwood‘s universe I became totally enraptured.
Sophie’s primary goal was to solve Emery’s kidnapping that happened years ago. To accomplish this she ends agreeing to way more than she bargained for. Emery provides her with this opportunity that she couldn’t resist. To get his story she agrees to become Emery’s submissive. From then on her world is literally turned upside down.
She’s been though it all. She was thrown out, tied up, became a witness to arson, experienced an explosion that almost costed her newly gained friends’ lives, endured the first meeting with the parents and of course survived a kidnapping. At some point in the midst of all that one would have ran for the hills but no matter what came Sophie’s way she always kept her cool.
That’s what I loved most about this book. The character building was exquisite. Sophie has been through so much but nothing deters her from her goals. You could not help but fall in love with her. I was so enamored I wished that there was a prequel that featured her before she even met Emery.
In many ways her and Emery were one in the same. They both experienced traumatic events in their lives, lost someone dear to them and ended up both being survivors. To me, they were a perfect match. Their chemistry was all around terrific.
My only issue with them however was just how fast they fell for each other. I would have preferred a slow build up but because of the fantastic plot I was able to look past it and enjoy the book anyway.
Overall, I thought that this was a great beginning to the series and I am looking forward to reading more about these interesting characters.
