Kahlen Aymes did it again! She delivered yet another 5 star finale. After reading the second book in the series I didn’t think that it could get any better but boy I was certainly wrong. Promises After Dark was definitely so much more than I could hope for.
In this book, the couple remain very much in love. Time and again they both prove to each other that they are in it for the long haul. Except for the fact that Angel is hesitant to make that final leap in moving in together everything else about them is flawless. That is up until both their lives are threatened by the psychopath Swanson that we met in Confessions In The Dark.
By all means necessary, Alex tries to protect Angel as best he could but with Angel being so strong-willed and independent keeping her safe becomes a challenge. I have to say that is one of the best things I love about this book… Angel is just amazing. She’s the epitome of the perfect heroine. Sexy, intelligent, out-spoken, loving and nurturing. Something horrific occurred in her past but instead of it making her weak she flourished into this courageous and selfless woman.
” I don’t want us to end. I want you in my bed, my body inside yours, t o give you so much pleasure you can’t form a coherent thought. But more, I just want you with me. Next to me. I want to take care of you, to protect you. Always.”
With a protagonist like Swanson, I would have to say that I was consistently at the edge of my seat. The thrills – both the romance and suspense were terrific individually yet when combined together it was utterly magnificent. Promises After Dark had the excellent flow and balance that just left me spellbound.
Back then I thought Ms Aymes wouldn’t be able to top her Remembrance Trilogy but she sure did with this one. I personally loved everything about this entire series and highly recommend grabbing a copy.
