If you think you’ve heard this story before, trust me – you haven’t.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
Good grief! I don’t even know where to begin with this one… Maybe I should start out by saying that “Black Lies” has unexpectedly become one of my favorite reads so far this year.
I say “unexpectedly” because there were multiple instances that I was extremely frustrated with the heroine – Layana . It was at the point where I didn’t expect to like this story that much because of her actions.
The beginning of her relationship with Brant was far from ideal but somehow it worked for them. As the story and the relationship progressed, I came to accept them as an ideal couple in every sense. Besides the naysayers, I thought that their entire relationship was flawless and so I couldn’t understand why Layana had the audacity to even consider cheating on her man. She was infuriating!
“Go ahead. Judge me. You have no idea what my love entails. I love two men. I fuck two men. If you think you’ve heard this story before, you haven’t.”
It honestly disturbed the (f*) hell out of me! Come to find out that there is this SHOCKING twist that I did not see coming. Well….thinking back there were these very subtle hints all throughout the book but I became so enraptured in this magnificent story that I ignored all of those signs until the very end.
As soon as I got to the “The End” I couldn’t help but go back and reread it again in all its entirety. I do have to say even with all the twists and turns revealed the second read was just as remarkable as the first. There aren’t that many books that I have come across where I can say the same.
Bottom line is…..read this one and be prepared to be amazed!
