Seventeen years old when he broke my heart.
Seventeen days later when another picked up the pieces.
Seventeen years together.
Seventeen thousand problems.
Seventeen days of reliving my past and finding a new future.
Seventeen minutes until it all went up in flames.
Seventeen breaths until I took my last.
This is my story…and it’s going to burn.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
Someone hand me a firehose! I sure do need something to help cool me down after experiencing the sweltering heat brought on by Tara Sivec’s new release – BURNED!
This story is about the “one that got away.” Collin was Finnley’s first in so many ways. First boyfriend, first love, first sexual experience and unfortunately the first to break her young heart. Sadly because of peer pressure back in high school Collin let her go. Finnley was heartbroken but that did not last very long. Immediately after that incident, a newly transferred student – Jordan wasted no time in swooping her up and they eventually get married.
A decade and a half later, Finnley admits that she is trapped in a miserable marriage. She tries to make things work but Jordan shows any effort and continuously refuses to do his part in the relationship. She finally puts her foot down and says enough is enough and finally kicks him to the curb.
“It’s never too late to love your dreams. You just have to want them enough to make them come true.”
As it was predestined, Collin right then and there reenters her life. And woohoo… talk about making a (re)entrance! From that very first encounter, these two were quite HOT HOT HOT. In fact, their entire reunion and the soon to be relationship was just that. It wasn’t just about the physical aspect of their relationship that was impressive, though. They fit in other aspects too.
Where Jordan was dragging her down in life, Collin inspired and motivated Finnley to follow her dreams. Everything was just about perfect until Finnley’s ex steps off the deep end. Whatever happens next is nail-biting intense and this was another thing that stood out for me. It wasn’t just about this swoon-worthy, heated romance but the suspense involved was greatly phenomenal as well.
Other than being a tad pricey for something on the shorter side I thought the story was terrific. This one is definitely going on my list of books of best summer, poolside or beach reads for this year.
The Verdict:
