In this sequel to Wallbanger, the second book in the Cocktail series, fan favorites Caroline and Simon negotiate the rollercoaster of their new relationship while house-sitting in San Francisco.
Playing house was never so much fun—or so confusing. With her boss on her honeymoon, Caroline’s working crazy long hours to keep the interior design company running—especially since she’s also the lead designer for the renovation of a gorgeous old hotel on Sausalito. So with her hotshot photographer boyfriend gallivanting all over the world for his job, she and Simon are heavy-duty into “absence makes the heart grow fonder” mode. Neither has any complaints about the great reunion sex, though! Then Simon decides he’s tired of so much travelling, and he’s suddenly home more. A lot more. And wanting Caroline home more, too. Though their friends’ romantic lives provide plenty of welcome distraction, eventually Caroline and Simon have to sort their relationship out. Neither wants “out of sight, out of mind,” but can they create their own happy mid-ground cliché?
USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton delivers another delicious, frothy cocktail of a book, shaking up her characters, stirring in laugh-out-loud humor, and serving sizzling romance straight up!
Liezel’s Thoughts:
If you enjoyed Wallbanger you will definitely will love Rusty Nailed too! In the first book we witnessed Simon and Caroline fall in hate than in love with each other. In the sequel we watch their relationship evolve and the ties that bind them further tighten.
I have to admit that Rusty Nailed was way more than I expected. The simple fact that we learn so much more about Simon’s sorrowful past was what made this one noteworthy to me. We see so much emotion not only on Simon’s part but also on Caroline’s. I’m convinced that when he agreed to finally return to his past that that was the turning point in their relationship. Despite the massive responsibilities laying on her shoulders she put everything on hold and stood by her man when he needed her the most.
I also loved seeing Caroline excel in her career. With her dedication she finally made it and was living her dream. For a twenty-seven year old I found that impressive. Obviously, there were multiple hurdles but she conquered each one with professionalism and finesse. Just as Caroline was there for Simon, Simon was there to back her up and support her whenever she needed. It wasn’t all perfect though (how fun would that be?) but with love and devotion they made it through.
For me, the romance was fantastic but it wasn’t just about that. It was also filled with so much emotional and heartrending moments yet still maintained that “Wallbanger” character and personality of being entertaining, hilarious and witty that we so loved.
I enjoyed this one and am looking forward to see what Alice Clayton has in store for us with Viv Franklin who is being featured in the next book Screwdrivered (Book 3) that is due out in September.
