Who is Iris? Where did she come from? Where has she gone?
Alasdair Masters has more questions than answers about his new, too young obsession, and when he finds out she’s been lying to him, from their first meeting to their last one, he’s more confused than ever about her feelings, her intentions.
And what’s just as confusing are his own feelings. Has he turned something purely physical into something emotional in his own head? Is any of it mutual?
The only thing he doesn’t question is whether he’ll keep going back for more.
DAIR
Me, I was simple. I was order. A very neat, efficient machine that ran on nothing but air.
Me plus anyone else, well, that was another matter. And me plus Iris, that was a monster of a machine, with all gears going at different speeds, some spinning off their hinges, just going mad, but it was a wonderful madness, at full throttle, misfiring in all directions.
It felt wonderful and dreadful.
I was breaking down, and it felt amazing.
And terrifying.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
“Iris” occurs two months after The Wild Side with Iris having disappeared from Dair’s life. Because of the physical nature of their relationship and the fact that it was also based of a numerous secrets and lies you would never think that Dair would be so broken up about it but surprisingly he is. Even with his means without Iris his existence seems so dull and monotonous.
He attempts to move on and somewhat reenters the social scene yet dating remains out of the question for him. Even with multiple opportunities presented he can’t seem to even imagine sleeping with anyone else. Then, without rhyme or reason Iris reappears and while he should be more guarded when letting her back in he just can’t do it.
She is a force of nature. We find them continuing exactly right where they left off – hot and extremely heavy. They both know that whatever they have isn’t permanent but that that doesn’t stop them from taking advantage of every single moment.
“In a world full of lies, you were my truth. You were my light and my compass.”
In this installment I thought that their relationship evolved beyond the physical. What’s crazy is with their age difference (among other things) you would never think that Iris and Dair would have anything in common but for some odd reason they somehow fit -physically (oh my!) and intellectually.
Whatever Iris’s age may be she is way mature for her age. She gets him as he does her. And I found it quite impressive how the author manages to make them work.
Despite the cliffhanger (and I so dislike cliffhangers) I found the second book just as interesting as the first. Don’t get me wrong I am frustrated with where things were left off but in my mind R.K. Lilley can never do wrong.
The entire series is intense and immensely intriguing and even with the wait I know that R.K. Lilley will make it so worth our while like she always does with any book that she’s written.
The Verdict:

I never really thought about it…. I knew what too young or maybe too old would be for me.
Erica Smith
Absolutely, when in high school dates had to be less than 2 yrs older and none over 18 while I was under!

I really don’t have an age limit, but I don’t think I could date someone significantly younger than me or was the age of my parents.
