It’s said that women and men are from two different planets when it comes to communication, but how can they overcome the obstacles of prehistoric times when one of them simply doesn’t have the ability to comprehend language?

Ehd’s a caveman living on his own in a harsh wilderness. He’s strong and intelligent, but completely alone. When he finds a beautiful young woman in his pit trap, it’s obvious to him that she is meant to be his mate. He doesn’t know where she came from; she’s wearing some pretty odd clothing, and she makes a lot of noises with her mouth that give him a headache. Still, he’s determined to fulfill his purpose in life – provide for her, protect her, and put a baby in her.

Elizabeth doesn’t know where she is or exactly how she got there. She’s confused and distressed by her predicament, and there’s a caveman hauling her back to his cavehome. She’s not at all interested in Ehd’s primitive advances, and she just can’t seem to get him to listen. No matter what she tries, getting her point across to this primitive, but beautiful, man is a constant – and often hilarious – struggle.

With only each other for company, they must rely on one another to fight the dangers of the wild and prepare for the winter months. As they struggle to coexist, theirs becomes a love story that transcends language and time.

I typically avoid stories that involve any sort of history because they honestly put me to Zzzzzzzz – sleep. Yeah, I know I’m ridiculous, right? But since I’ve loved every single book written by Shay Savage so far I thought it would give this one a try. Lo and behold, to my surprised there was not a single boring thing about this unique story.

From the very first chapter I became fully vested in Ehd’s life. I wanted to know where he came from, how he ended up all alone and his means of survival throughout the years. I thought that Ehd was interesting enough but when Beh was added into the equation her presence further piqued my curiosity.

Who wouldn’t be intrigued with a modern-day woman ending up in prehistoric times? Wouldn’t you want to know how she would survive in such a rudimentary world? As the story goes on, we observe how Ehd and Beh’s basic instincts and preservation take hold and bring them together. We also become witnesses to their love, prosperity and even in their hardship.

The character building especially on Beh’s part was magnificent. I appreciated her strength, her resourcefulness and eventually how affectionate she became towards Ehd and the family. I thought Ehd made a perfect match for Beh. He always thought that his “Luffs” was strange but that didn’t stop him from loving, caring and protecting her by all means necessary.

Again, I was impressed with the way Shay Savage was able to tell this story in the males point of view. And while there is no actual conversations actually going on throughout the entire book (say what?) – that never deterred me from the overall story. In my opinion, these were the two major reasons that made this book that exceptional.

Bottom line is I loved this book. I can’t even describe how enraptured I was with these two dissimilar people. They literally came from different worlds and to see them becoming one was just simply breathtaking.

Transcendence was truly nothing like I have ever read before and I applaud Shay Savage for opening my eyes and providing me a great opportunity to appreciate a different sub-genre in romance.
