Spencer Shrike is a man with a plan. Get in. Get out. Move on. He loves Ron the Bomb, and her safety is the only thing on his mind these days. But life is a tricky bastard, and conning criminals for the better part of ten years brings its own set of problems. Sure, Rook lied her way out of a sticky situation, covering for crimes Ronin, Ford, and Spencer committed, and getting them all off scot-free in the process.
But not everyone is buying Rook’s story, and Spencer is desperate to figure out who’s in town setting them up for a fall.
Veronica the Bombshell Vaughn has put up with Spencer Shrike’s shit for years and where has it gotten her? A big fat nowhere. No ring, no house, no kids, and no promises. In fact, Spencer is worse than ever—completely distant and moody. She’s done sitting at home, pining over a man she can’t have.
But she’s not opposed to fighting for him.
Ron the Bomb fights hard and she fights dirty, so she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get Spencer’s attention.
But now there’s another man in town with his eye on her. He’s got secrets too, but unlike Spencer, Bobby Mansi is more than willing to let Veronica in on them.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
I’ve witnessed a lot of indie romance series come to a final conclusion but it’s this one that saddens me the most. Why does every good thing have to come to an end?
If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you may have noticed that every single one of these books whether it involves “The Liar”, “The Hacker” or “The Guns” it received a 5/5 star rating from me.
Why is that you ask? It’s because every single one of the stories has something different to offer. The men in the series are closer than brothers yet none of them are anywhere alike. Each is in their own way extraordinary and the women that “become” their life are no different. Such as our heroine Ronnie…
You have to admit that it is quite heinous how Spencer disregards her repeatedly but if you’ve read Bomb you know why he pushes her away. Rejection can be an awful thing but in Ronnie’s world, she accepts it and instead of wallowing in pity she remains strong. In spite of everything she continues to put herself out there and challenges herself with or without the presence of the love of her life.
Spencer is just as magnificent as the previous book. He is so badass in those situations that involve the “team” that you would never expect him to have this softer side. We do witness it briefly in the Bomb Novella but it is a hundred times more evident in Guns.I can’t even begin to enumerate all the sacrifices he’s been through for his one love.
Every decision he made no matter how outrageous it may seem, his one primary concern and driving factor always revolved around her. His devotion and dedication are incomparable. Their pairing was perfect – inspiring, loving and very much passionate. And jeez… who would have thought that paint could be oh so sexy?
About the story itself, I would have to say that the book synopsis can be a little deceiving. The climax of the story was not as I expected at all …it was so much more! Those parts were so jaw- dropping and very startling that in my head I kept saying “WTF just happened?” After all of that was said and done I found myself going back to reread the suspenseful and action sequences repeatedly and still remained in awe.
The way J.A. Huss brought all these books together was just ridiculously brilliant – a stroke of genius really. Loved, loved, loved it! These stories are the total package and I can not stress enough how much you NEED to read this series.
