The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love.”

With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn’t know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won’t keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that’s not all he wants with her.

The Shatter Me series is perfect for fans who crave action-packed young adult novels with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu. Tahereh Mafi has created a captivating and original story that combines the best of dystopian and paranormal, and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and satisfying end.

Liezel’s Thoughts:

“I am no longer afraid to fear, and I will not let it rule me. Fear will learn to fear me.”

What an amazing finale to this trilogy! The story was enrapturing enough that I read the entire book in one sitting. After finishing it my first reaction was “OMG! What an epic ending!” Then as the minutes passed by and after processing it all I can’t help but feel a little depressed knowing that this was the end.

In this final book, Juliette decides to put her plan into action. She knows the only way to be free is to eliminate the Supreme. Even with all the power she now possesses she knows that she can not do this alone. Warner has always been on her side but she needs more. She needs her friends. At first she didn’t know if any were alive after the bombing of Omega Point. Warner tries to convince her that there is no way that there could be any survivors but Juliette was bent on finding out for herself.

When she finally finds them she has to convince them that Warner isn’t a total psychopath afterall. Of course just seeing Juliette with Warner pushes Adams buttons. He doesn’t want anything to do with them or any of their plans. The remaining survivors all agree that this is the best way to survive and reclaim their world. They leave Adam and James alone and covertly head to Warner’s base camp to train. This doesn’t sit well with the rest of the team but it seems Adam is blinded by jealousy.

In the mean time, Warner is slowly coming out of his emotional shell. He is confused not having experienced these emotions before yet he gets to that point where he finally admits his feelings to Juliette. We know that Juliette feels something for Warner but she isn’t ready to reciprocate. Warner tries his best to keep his distance from then on out and focuses on the incoming war. Being told a lie by Juliette’s bestfriend, Adam finally rejoins the group which puts everyone involved in better spirits.

…the more I discover about him, the fewer excuses I have to push him away. He’s unraveling before me, becoming something entirely different….terrifying me in a way I never expected.”

Then it happens, the moment we have all been waiting for! A painful scene in Warner’s life becomes the turning point in Warner and Juliette’s relationship. Warner also finds out that he isn’t alone in the world which comes as a huge surprise to him. He has so much more in life then he ever would have thought. While he should be basking in all that happiness, the war commences.

With Juliette on their side there was no way the Supreme would succeed and while I did love how she claims her new position in my mind it isn’t over. For me, it was just the beginning. There seemed so many unanswered questions that I can’t help feel disappointed and this is why despite everything else I rated it a 4/5. I want to know how the other commanders react to her, how she leads and governs, how Adam finds his HEA and of course I want to know more about her and Warner’s new relationship.

There was so much to love about this series. For me, it wasn’t only about the enticing romance that kept me interested but it was also about finding yourself, about the camaraderie amongst the group and most especially about hope. Juliette was nothing but a prisoner of her own self and otherwise but in the end it was spectacular to see her emerge and become this fearless leader.

I enjoyed this amazing series and in my mind I’m just screaming fore “more! more! more!” It can’t possible end there can it? There just seems so much more story to tell and I am hoping that Tahareh Mafi decides to further expand the series.

The Verdict:

rating-4

“For so many years I lived in constant terror of myself…I had been shackled a prisoner of my own mind. But finally, finally, I have learned to break free.”
