Gracie has just finished her freshman year of college in Memphis when she takes a job at a local pizza joint in her home town of McKenzie, Tennessee. She is the epitome of innocence when she meets Noah. Noah is unabashedly handsome, intriguingly reckless and just cocky enough to be sexy. Gracie’s instincts tell her to stay far away from him and based on the stories she hears from her co-workers he leaves broken hearts in his wake. But still, she can’t explain her fascination with him.

Noah puts aside his bad boy ways when what he thought was a summer crush has him unexpectedly falling in love. But soon after Gracie transfers to UT Knoxville to be with Noah, their unexpected love becomes riddled with anger, deceit and humiliation.

Jake, Noah’s former roommate and Gracie’s best friend, can no longer be a bystander. Gracie’s world falls out from beneath her and when she breaks she turns to Jake for strength. As Jake talks her through a decision she’s not yet strong enough to make, together they uncover a truth so ugly neither of them is prepared for its fallout. Will Jake pull her to the surface or is Gracie Jordan finally In Too Deep?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

Like most, I read for  fun and entertainment and thought to pick  this  series up while on vacation. Wrong decision on my part because  this book was not enjoyable for me at all. It honestly should have landed into my  DNF pile but I was totally sucked into it and continued on for two reasons. First, I was hoping  that Gracie would  finally develop some sense  second and I needed to know the details to get to the next book in the series.

I am going to be honest and say that my reaction to this book may be because I  could not personally relate to Gracie’s situation. Therefore I could not fully understand how she manages to stay enamored with this guy that treated her like crap. All of it was just over the top. If it was once or twice, fine. It might have been acceptable but the things he made her do and made her feel was just totally unacceptable. She basically became a different person for Noah.

“It’s not that easy. It’s like he’s got strings tied to my emotions and my common sense. I can’t seem to think for myself when he wants me to do something I’ve never done before.”

How could she even consider this guy to even be “the love of her life”? She seemed intelligent enough then why couldn’t she  leave this guy? I found her so frustrating and wanted to reach into  my ereader, slap her silly and talk some sense into her.

The other unacceptable thing that I found about this book was her friends. Their group was portrayed to be pretty tight knit and I just can’t figure out why they let her go back to this douche over and over again. Was it that important that they put their friend in this guys clutches just to get into the hottest parties, gaining them entrance into  Sigma Chi?

Rarely do I come across books that irk me but this one sure did. And I’m sorry if this review may be hurtful for some but I strive to be honest with my reviews. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion right? So please don’t hate.

Was it worth finishing to get to the next? Read that review next  to find out…

The Verdict:

rating-2

About Michelle Kemper Brownlow

Michelle Kemper Brownlow likes her music loud and prefers live concerts but will happily settle for the eclectic playlists on her iPhone. This Penn State grad and former high school art teacher is easily distracted by colorful art supplies and Eddie Vedder’s voice. When she’s not in her studio writing, she can be found putting off housework for a good romance novel that has her heart pounding and tears flowing. She is married to her very own “Jake” and is mom to three fantastic humans, a black lab and a Chinchilla named Wodney.
