First off, I just have to come out and say it – this book cover is just amazingly striking. I know as a reader we’re not suppose to” judge a book by its’ cover” but in this case the story that lies beneath is just as stunning as what is wrapped around it.
Love in Darkness is about a man willing to sacrifice everything including his sanity all for the love of his life. Obviously, this is something not easy do. Just the thought of Madison being with another sets Alex off but being the altruistic person that he is, he endures all the pain of losing that one person that means more to him than life itself. No matter what it takes he just wants her to move on and let go. Because of his issues he never felt worthy enough for anyone. He kept on doubting his self-worth and never realized how much he influenced the entire close-knit community.
I haven’t had the chance to read Book 1: Castles in the Sand ( book details can be found below) so I appreciated the back stories that were included about some of the town folk. It gave me a better feel of the community as a whole. I also enjoyed reading how some of the characters that were merely acquaintances were eventually able to develop their relationships into lasting friendships especially for Alex’s sake.
Mental illness is never a laughing matter but somehow the author was able to make some of the passages humorous and witty. I felt that the humor balanced out the seriousness of the subject matter and it was done with such refinement that just left me even more impressed.
I thought that this story was smooth and very well delivered. There may have been some parts in the middle that I thought was a little too drawn out for my liking but those details made a better over all impact in the end.
I would definetely recommend this book for those looking for a wholesome yet emotionally charged story.
The Verdict:
Book 1 : Castles on the Sand
Synopsis:
If there’s one thing Madison Lukas understands, it’s pain. The pain she feels when her mother ignores her completely. The pain her best friend endures as her parents starve her as punishment. The pain of a dangerous boy whose mother has to be carried away by law enforcement on a regular basis.
She gets it. She feels the pain of others as if it were her own.
But when a mysterious man claiming to be her long lost brother appears with promises of relieving her suffering, trusting him could reveal more truths than Madison is ready for. Because the truth can hurt, too.
