Jess knew her life would never move forward if she remained a part of Gregory’s pack. Some Alpha’s just don’t know how to take care of their wolves. She had managed Gregory’s bar for years but she knew he would never sell it to her. After one giant mistake, he went from bad to worse. As a psychic, she knew it was a downward spiral. Taking her future in her own hands, she contacts the Alpha in Edenton. He is happy to sell the empty bar no one has the time, nor desire to renovate, much less run. Their attraction is unexpected and the last thing either want, but they find the only thing they need in each other. There is just one problem. Slater’s second in command is plotting against him. Liam will use anything to take over as Alpha. Plenty of werewolves, an old vampire flame, plus a paranoid second, and don’t forget the psychic with a whole lot of attitude.
Liezel’s Thoughts:
I’ve had this book in my queue for weeks but never got the chance to read it up until this weekend. If you are a blogger you know how busy things could get – tours, formatting and reformatting posts, deadlines, over bookings etc. I just couldn’t find the right time. But let me tell you after reading New Beginnings, despite all my time constraints I just had to put everything on hold and reread In Too Deep again.
I enjoyed this story just as much as I enjoyed the first (read my review HERE ). What I love about these books are the kick ass female leads. Jess doesn’t have the physical prowess that Fallon had but in my opinion that gift that she has out rules all the others. Jess is psychic. It takes just one touch and she can see a person’s future. While some would harness this power differently she keeps hers well hidden and controlled. She never flaunted it or even thought of using it for her own personal gain.
I was very impressed with her character. She’s very strong-willed and opinionated. Sassy. She didn’t take shit from her alpha Gregory and the moment he even tries to exert control she was out of there. While most women would love a man taking care of them, she was independent and wanted to succeed on her own terms. Hence leaving San Francisco and landing in Edenton. Immediately she wanted to get her new life started.
She was determined to make it on her own but with the looming power play that was happening around her she was offered protection while she got her business off the ground. She was never looking for a relationship. Slater wasn’t looking for one either, especially with one of the other wolves. He mated once and thought he would never again. No one ever came close up until he met Jess.
I found Slater admirable. He governed his pack differently than Gregory, earning much more respect from those that he lead. He never exuded his power over them rather he sat his enforcers down to talk things out when issues arise. Of course in the beginning of Jess and his relationship he tested his boundaries of control. Jess being Jess, she wasn’t having any of that. He was agreeable after they talked things through. Loved that even being an alpha he wasn’t looking for a submissive rather he was looking for a partner. They were a perfect fit. In and out of the bedroom ( or by the lake, in the shower etc. – you get my point! ).
I loved this story just as much as I loved In Too Deep. Don’t ask me which I enjoyed more though because that would be a tough decision. I thought the story pacing was just right. We got more details about the pack hierarchy without it getting too overwhelmed with the details. The chemistry between the two main characters was fantastic . The tension was spot on. Just like book 1, it had the perfect balance between passion and suspense.
If you are into paranormal romance then I highly recommend this series.
