Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the lost journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.

In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but not before his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca, but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

Sara McMillan just can not seem to let things go. Rebecca’s words just keep haunting her everyday even in her sleep. She remains determined to discover what happened to the missing young lady even when her safety is at stake. Chris starts brooding over Sara and decides to play a major role as her protector. He comes to care for her way more than they both expected and their relationship evolves into something more. They try to make things work but both are holding secrets. Secrets that may destroy them or make them. Because of this, their relationship is constantly tested and at every turn one of them runs.

Mark has always wanted Sara but in a different capacity. With the constant clashing between the two, Mark seems to be readily available to Sara to pick up the pieces and to tempt her into becoming his instead. The question is will she ever give into Mark’s proposition.

Being Me continues immediately right where  If I Were You left off  with a horrible cliffhanger leaving us wanting.  While most sequels can never outshine their predecessor this one did a hundred times over and I think it was well  worth that wait.

In this book, not only do we learn more about Sara and her past we also get to know Chris and his torment. Both of them in their own way are broken. But because of what they feel for each other they attempt to heal each other and make things work.

All the questions I had about Rebecca are also covered. And while some may think that those details are lacking, this story wasn’t about her. Her part in this trilogy is just a snapshot of a whole bigger picture.

The relationship between Sara and Chris is intense and provocative but it does not in any way outshine the compelling thrill and suspense of the story. To me it had the perfect balance between both components showing  us that Lisa Renee Jones is definitely a master of her craft. If you haven’t read Book 1 in this remarkable series I recommend that you do so now.

The Verdict:
