How do you move on when he’s every song you sing?

After Laurelyn Prescott walks away from the love of her life, she returns to Nashville to pursue the only dream she has left. Determined to find a distraction from the pain of losing Jack Henry, she immerses herself in her music. But with her old life comes old acquaintances and new expectations. When Laurelyn refuses her record producer’s outrageous demands, she finds herself without a career—until an unforeseen opportunity presents itself. From there it’s a rocket ride straight to the top where Laurelyn finds the success she’s always dreamed of. Will it be enough to bring her the happiness she so deserves, or will the absence of Jack Henry leave her wanting more?

Jack Henry McLachlan never expected to fall in love with Laurelyn Prescott—but he did. After he foolishly let her slip through his fingers, he spends three months searching for her, but their reunion doesn’t come easy. The woman he finds isn’t the same one who drifted away without a goodbye. No longer an insecure girl on an Australian adventure, this Laurelyn is a successful musician with a promising career. Her dreams are becoming a reality, and Jack is terrified his American girl won’t have a place for him in her new life. With only a month to convince her otherwise, will it be enough time to make her visualize a life beyond the glitz and glamour, a life that includes him?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

“You’re everything I never knew I wanted. Every time I picture my future, it’s your face I see… with some little people who look like us.”

I absolutely loved Beauty From Pain ( read my 5/5 Review HERE ) and was really looking forward to the sequel  for months. I know I’m going to be the oddball here, but this one left me  disappointed. While they did they get their HEA and had one beautiful reunion there were just a few elements missing. For me it was lacking a plot. I also prefer my stories more on the angsty side and their reunion just came too easy.  I love some steamy hot, passionate romance and I tell you there’s a lot of that in this story – I found it too overwhelming. Is it possible  that too much great sex make a story dissatisfying ?  I also missed Jack being the more dominant alpha male.  Some of the terminology  also threw me off and I’m wondering if this whole story could have been  better written as a novella maybe.

I do love the fact that we did get to see a proposal and although it wasn’t a traditional one it was just perfect for them. I also loved how Jack’s whole family was very supportive of him even if he did lead one crazy lifestyle. I enjoyed reading how they all  accepted Laurelyn  and how they welcomed her into their family. And of course how she eventually reconciled with her parents.

I for one would gladly devour a third book if G. Cates decided to write one. What I would’ve wanted to see in the next book? I want Laurelyn’s  career to take off even more. I imagine stardom, being approached for movies, total Hollywood… the works!  For someone who is that talented I hope she doesn’t give it all up. I imagine Jack feeling the same way, after all he is building her her own studio. Plot wise I’m thinking  an unstable Blake seeking revenge would be a good one and/or maybe Jack discovering that he fathered a child from one of his previous arrangements would be interesting too. I’m just hoping that it will be so much more than this one.

Despite my hang ups above, I still recommend this one for diehard Jack Henry -Laurelyn fans like me.

The Verdict:

rating-3

My Casting Picks:

Sticking to my choices that I made in BFP. Henry Cavill as Jack Henry and Blake Lively as Laurelyn.

About Georgia Cates

Georgia resides in rural Mississippi with her wonderful husband, Jeff, and their two beautiful daughters. She spent fourteen years as a labor and delivery nurse before she decided to pursue her dream of becoming an author and hasn’t looked back yet.

When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about writing. When she’s being domestic, she’s listening to her iPod and visualizing scenes for her current work in progress. Every story coming from her always has a song to inspire it.
