First we meet Sparrow. Surprisingly as the pastor’s only child she wasn’t as sheltered as you might think. Her parents actually encouraged her into her first serious relationship with Michael. The relationship she had with her parents was I thought to be perfect. She was treated as an adult and therefore seemed more mature for a teenager. I was impressed by their family’s relationship and to me it was a breath of fresh air because most of these stories begin with a tragic accident or a painful childhood.
“You have seen me. And you do know me. More that anyone has. The evil and the ugly that you have seen, as well as the good, are me.But there is still a heart. A soul. A person who aches to be yours. To be released. To wrap himself inside you and know that he is safe.”
The story starts with Michael and Sparrow. I am convinced that if she had accepted his proposal they would have been unhappily married to each other. While they might have loved each other, Sparrow was never “in-love” with him. Her refusal ends up with Michael’s heartbreak. And then enters Ian. When Ian and Sparrow meet the first time, they both knew instantly that there was something unexplainable there. Those first days they meet and talk was just swoon worthy. When Ian finds out how big of a difference their age gap was he decides to just ignore his feelings and moves on without any kind of explanation. A confused Sparrow then moves to New York and starts college. She appreciates schoolwork as a good distraction. After months of going back and forth they finally admit their feelings and start an open relationship. Because of his touring he just simply can not commit and when he finally does just weeks before their wedding she learns of his betrayal.
“Why, Ian? What did she have that I didn’t? Why wasn’t I enough? How could you take my feelings and just toss them aside like trash? I lived for you.”
He tries everything to win her back. The letters he write are just exquisite. Every emotion he professes in his letters are just so heart clenching. They are so detailed you can’t help but feel the empathy and it isn’t just with these letters but you feel empathy throughout the whole book. The circumstances in which they reunite , the sacrifices he made in order to gain her trust, the length of time it took for them to reconcile , the writing style was just flawless. Everything about it was impeccable which is pretty impressive for a debut author.
” Tell me you don’t still love me Sparrow, and I won’t touch you. Tell me you don’t still need me, that your body doesn’t still ache for mine. Tell me.”
The only thing that saddens me about this book is that it’s a stand alone. I mostly enjoy books that are part of a series or that have spin-offs mentioning the original characters. In this one I really want to know how Sparrow and Ian manage a family life while on the road. I’m even curious about her pregnancy. Is she able to keep up with her writing? Is he going to keep touring? Or are they going to live a life on the road forever? So many unanswered questions! I almost want to write some fanfic. Haha!

The book synopsis doesn’t do this story any justice because of this I almost ignored this book. But don’t make that mistake. To me, this one is one of my favorite rock star love stories. Pretty much comparable to Thoughtless by S. C. Stephens. I know some of you are growning out there but seriously it is just as good or maybe even better in my opinion. I definitely recommend this one. A MUST MUST READ!

For Sparrow I wanted to find someone who looked innocent and had naturally curly hair and found Emmy Rossum. For Ian I wanted an a real rocker and choose Jared Leto.
