Although she makes it a point to avoid interactions with others, Josephine’s life becomes entangled with the enigmatic stranger. Before she realizes it, she has given herself over to the one person who is close enough to wreck her.

This story starts with a tragic car accident that leaves Jo an orphan. She survives first through foster care but eventually lives on the street. Seven years ago, she enters a bookstore and demands for a job. She finally has something to live for. The bookstore becomes her whole life. She even develops a love hate relationship with the owner Sutton. Then enters Damon Cole. The first time they meet they both agree that there is a certain familiarity. Although both can not determine what it is at first you instantly know by Chapter 2 why this is.
“You may not realize it yet, but you’re mine. Not because I am claiming you. You’re mine because that’s how it is. I feel like I have waited my whole life to find you. Before we met in that store I dreamed of you every night. I wondered where you were and when I’d find you. Now that I have, you’d be crazy if you think I would just let you go.”
Within a month they’re relationship becomes exclusive. They both admit that they love and can not live without each other. While this is quite lovely, shouldn’t Jo have questioned Damon’s motives? For an independent woman who has lived on the street she fell into this relationship way to fast. He was pushing and providing his monetary help too early in the relationship as well. It doesn’t matter if you’re “THAT” loaded you just don’t up and go buy someone a business within a week of knowing them.
“Why are you scared of losing me? I’m not going anywhere. My heart is yours. I couldn’t leave if I tried.”
I’ve read a lot of books this past year and while this book would have been wonderful, the plot perfectly mirrors another story. Basically it’s an adult version of “Ten Tiny Breaths” with some elements of “This Man” integrated into it. While there are so many beautiful passages in the story, if you do emulate another authors plot you should best be sure that it comes out even better than its predecessors and to me this one falls short. Mostly because the writing style and the formatting could also be improved. And how is it even possible that half of the characters in the book end up dead or in a hospital bed? Unbelievable.
All in all, this book was an ok book for a debut author. Now would I read the next book? Yup of course! I would like to find out how Jo and Damon reconcile. I want to know if Damon provided for her out of guilt? Did she really fall for him for his financial generosity and emotional desperation or did they really love each other. I do hope that the writing style, that the scenes are more smooth and detailed and that the writing further improves and the hospital scene is legitimate. Since I am a healthcare professional I seem to critique hospital scenes more that anything.
