There are some mistakes we make that we will regret for the rest of our lives. For Christian Davison, it was the day he betrayed Elizabeth Ayers. For five years, Christian has regretted the day he walked away from his family and will do anything to win them back. Can Elizabeth forgive someone who has committed the unforgiveable? Or are there some wounds that go so deep they can never heal?

Liezel’s Thoughts:

This is the only place I want to be, Elizabeth…with you.”

The way the writer described every emotion, every detail  was simply exquisite . I couldn’t help putting myself in Christian’s shoes in Lost To You. The internal struggle in admitting what he truly felt for Elizabeth was remarkable.

In Take This Regret, I fell more into Elizabeth. The pain she felt when Christian made her choose was heartbreaking.  I couldn’t believe how much she had to go through for  FIVE long years. I was just happy that she didn’t have to suffer all those years alone. She always had her family and Matthew to help her.

“This has been a long time coming. I’ve been too dense to see it for what it is. You are the kind of girl I’m looking for, Elizabeth. The only girl I’m looking for.”

I was conflicted about  how I felt about Christian in the beginning.  I wanted to hate him especially when he said “…don’t make me take you to court.”, but I realized it was all out of desperation.   Seeing how unhappy and miserable he truly was, how much regret he had and how selfless he became in trying to win her back changed my opinion about him.

This is one has to be my favorite read of this year so far. I know that isn’t saying much since its only February… but I don’t remember any other book that made me bawl like I did all throughout this story. The way the author described every emotion was spot on, I couldn’t help but feel empathy for both Christian and Elizabeth. Very good writing indeed.

The Verdict:

rating-5

Casting Picks:

I know the actors I picked do not look anything like the people on the book cover but this is how I pictured them while reading the books.

For Elizabeth Ayers… Drew Barrymore. Described as having dark-blond hair and a heart-shaped face.

My pick for Christian Davison is Ryan Reynolds. Described as having  black hair, blue eyes, sharp angled jaw and “the most gorgeous guy I’d ever seen.”

On goodreads, it says that Take This Regret is book 1 … wondering if there’s a sequel? If there is, I would love to see them getting married and having more kids. But that wouldn’t be enough for a whole story, maybe another novellA? Or maybe a spinoff that mentions these things. Or maybe a Matthew and Natalie’s story or even a story about one of Elizabeth’s sisters? I would read anything by this author, she has clearly blown me away!

Synopsis:

People come into our lives. Some stay, and many go. Some build us up, while most tear us down. They become our friends, our enemies, our lovers, our tormentors.

Christian Davison came into mine, and I knew I’d never be the same.

To Elizabeth Ayers, New York City had always been a dream. She’s worked her entire young life to make it here.

Groomed to one day take over his father’s law firm, attending Columbia University was Christian Davison’s only option.

Neither wanted anything more until they sat across from each other at a café table after being paired as study partners.

Christian wants her, but Elizabeth knows better than to give into their intense attraction. Yet there is little she can do to stay away.
